The GreetGeo’s project consortium recently organized a comprehensive study tour bringing together approximately 50 participants to explore Croatia’s emerging geothermal sector.

The tour started in Bjelovar, where participants learned about the Wellovar Geothermal Sports and Recreation Park, an ambitious project combining geothermal energy with public amenities. Construction commenced in October 2025, with the facility expected to welcome visitors later this year and the complex is expected to feature approximately 7,000 square meters of swimming pools representing one of Croatia’s most advanced thermal spa facilities.

Participants had the opportunity to visit the construction site and inspect the Korenovo GT-1 geothermal well, which will supply thermal water from a depth of 1,290 meters. Originally drilled in November 2023 and tested the following spring, this well exemplifies the technical expertise driving Croatia’s geothermal development.

The tour continued to Krizevci, where local officials are breathing new life into a geothermal resource explored over 40 years ago. The Krizevcanka-1 well, drilled in 1985–86 to 1,496 meters depth, has demonstrated consistent thermal output with a wellhead temperature of 79.5 °C and an estimated capacity of 3 MWth.

Mayor Tomislav Katanovic welcomed participants and outlined plans to develop an injection well system for operational deployment. The strategic location near schools, sports facilities, and the municipal swimming pool positions geothermal heating as a practical solution for public infrastructure. With environmental and preliminary design approvals already in place, Krizevci is now preparing to secure funding for full project implementation.

These initiatives demonstrate the tangible progress being made across Croatian communities to harness their geothermal assets effectively.
